Liberty University located in Virginia, America, is the largest Evangelical Christian university in the world, the largest private non-profit university in the nation as well as the largest university in the state of Virginia.

Founded as Lynchburg Baptist College in 1971, LU is celebrating its 40 years of Training Champions for Christ this year.

It has an annual enrollment of about 72,000 students, the majority of whom are studying through LU Online and the rest are residential students living in its central Virginia campus. The acceptance rate for new first-time full-time students entering Liberty’s resident program is about 20% and the rate for Liberty University Online is about 45%.

The 6,000-acre campus covers millions of square feet of academic, residential and recreational space, with its Campus East boasting 30 new multi-story apartment style dormitories. There are also many technologically advanced facilities at LU such as the 90,000-square-foot (8,400 m2) LaHaye Student Center and Tilley Center. Students can get access to basketball courts, cardio and weight rooms, cafe, multi-purpose rooms, aerobic rooms, pool room, and social areas as well as a stage for frequent student performances, bands and small concerts. LU Academic Overview

LU didn’t obtain its university status until the year 1984, during which period it was accredited by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS). It has gained rapid development for the following four decades and as of August 2011, it has offered 148 undergraduate programs, 87 graduate programs and 11 doctoral programs within the residential and online programs, 60 among which are accredited degree granting programs.

Aeronautics, Philosophy and Religion, English, Worship & Music Ministry, Business, Criminal Justice, Education and Nursing are among the popular majors in LU. It also plans to start a medical school in 2013. Besides, the Liberty professors go through a rigorous interview process to guarantee they have a commitment to teaching excellence.

This school has received wide spread recognition and praises for the last few years. Level VI accreditation – the highest classification from SACS, and the 80th top school in the list of Regional Universities by U.S. News & World Report, to name only a few.
